Dustin Colgan: Let the Season Begin

The Brockport 2011-2012 track season has begun and is in full swing. We are about four weeks into practice and things are looking extremely well for the up and coming indoor season. The combination of returners, transfers, and freshmen will makes us a team to take seriously this season. When I say that we have an amazing freshmen and transfer class, I mean it. The energy and the dedication that they bring to this team is contagious and it has caught on with the rest of the team. We had some great senior performers on the team last year that we needed to fill the gap for this season, and the freshmen and transfers are exceeding their expectations. Across the board within the different events on this team, things are looking great and the atmosphere is at an all-time high. Athletes that were on the team last year have a new fire under them to do better than last year and being satisfied with an “ok” performance is no longer acceptable. We had some solid individual performances last season but we fell short as a team. This year our goal is not be content with doing well, but to COMPETE every time we set into our blocks or get into that circle. Competing is does not mean winning, but having that attitude that that person next to me is going to get everything I got so they better watch out. Track is ultimately a TEAM sport. When it comes down to the Conference meet, individual wins are great but in the end what people remember is how well the TEAM did. If we stay on track with how things are going, being a successful TEAM will not be a problem this season.

“Practice as if you are the worst, perform as if you are the best.”
